Juneteenth Nationwide Independence Day turned the twelfth authorized public vacation, celebrating the emancipation of the final enslaved African People. On that day in 1865, Union troopers led by Gen. Gordon Granger arrived within the coastal metropolis of Galveston, Texas to ship Normal Order No. 3, formally ending slavery within the state.

On Monday, June 19, 2023 the Federal Reserve will likely be closed in observance of Juneteenth.
